Help a Neighbour – A Simple Idea to make Guadalupe Hills a Kinder Place

No committee. No fees. Just neighbours helping neighbours.

What’s the Deal

We live in a community with a mix of full-time residents, holiday-home owners, families, and retirees. Some of us have cars. Some don’t. Some speak fluent Spanish. Some are still learning. Some have a garage full of tools. Some don’t even own a hammer.

So here’s a simple idea: What if we helped each other with small things?

Not big jobs. Not professional services. Just the kind of favours you’d ask a good neighbour for.

What Kind of Help Are We Talking About?

CategoryExamples
Home & securityHolding a spare key, collecting post, watering plants, checking on a property after a storm
TransportEmergency lift to the doctor, airport car share (split fuel), lift to the bus stop, explaining bus routes
Practical helpLifting something heavy, translating Spanish at the doctor, helping with simple forms
EmergenciesJump starting a car, letting someone in when their remote control battery dies
Tool sharingBorrowing a drill, ladder, garden shears, or other basic tools – return them clean

What we don’t do: Medical emergencies (call 112), legal advice, financial matters, structural repairs, or anything that needs a qualified professional.

How It Works – Two Simple Roles

1. Users – Neighbours Who Need Help

You don’t have to give anything back. Just ask nicely, give reasonable notice if you can, and accept a «no» gracefully – we might be busy, tired, or away.

To use the service:
Contact David. Explain what you need. If we can help, we will.

The only rule: For medical emergencies, always call 112 first. We are not doctors or paramedics.

2. Volunteers – Neighbours Who Give Help

You don’t need to be available 24/7. You don’t need to say yes to everything. You choose what you’re comfortable with and when.

What volunteering looks like:

  • You join a small WhatsApp group (low traffic, no gossip)
  • When someone needs help, you see if you can do it
  • If you can’t, you say nothing or reply «sorry, can’t today»
  • If you can, you step in

What you get in return:

  • A small network of friendly neighbours
  • Someone to help you when you need it
  • A better, safer, kinder community

To become a volunteer:
Send David an Email or WhatsApp with your name, apartment number, and a short list of what you’re happy to help with (e.g., «keyholding, lifts, drill lending»).
